Philosophy is nothing more than the art of thinking something about anything. My goal in this class is to break it down all to the way to the beginning and build it piece by piece - so we will largely avoid an excessive amount of reading (though there will be some) and focus more on class discussions and small writing assignments to focus the conversation each class.
Some of the basic areas that we will be introducing are:
- Epistemology: how do we know anything at all?
- Metaphysics: What actually exists in the universe? How do I know the difference between a tree, a bush, and Chuck Norris?
- Logic: How do I know that knowing A should also mean B? What sorts of connections like that do I already do without even realizing it?
- Ethics: What is good and bad to do?
- Politics: How should people in groups make decisions together (or should one person do it by force)?
- Aesthetics: What is beauty? What makes something beautiful?Philosophy is nothing more than the art of thinking something about anything.

This works as a great introductory course for the other philosophical classes (ethics, logic, economics, etc.).
